Achieving the Arbitration Dream: Professor Julian DM Lew KC receives a liber amicorum from peers

Professor Julian DM Lew KC has been honoured with a presentation of a liber amicorum, ‘Achieving the Arbitration Dream’, marking his 75th birthday and his leading role in the international arbitration community.

The liber amicorum – literally, a book of friends – is a compendium of contributions from a group of preeminent arbitration professionals and scholars, providing valuable perspectives and extensive analyses on a wide range of cutting-edge topics in the field of law, of which Julian is a leader, and in which he remains an outstanding arbitrator and teacher. This exceptional book is a celebration of the multifaceted legacy of a key figure in the evolution of international arbitration – a figure who holds many roles, including as a full-time arbitrator at Twenty Essex and Head of the School of International Arbitration in the Centre for Commercial Law Studies at Queen Mary University of London.

The presentation took place yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 17 May) at Herbert Smith Freehills, where Julian was formerly head of the international arbitration practice group.

Twenty Essex co-head of chambers, Charles Kimmins KC, was in attendance and says: “This book is a wonderful testament to Julian, who has made an outstanding contribution to the law of international arbitration, as counsel, arbitrator and academic. It has been, and remains, an honour and a privilege to have Julian as a member of chambers here at Twenty Essex.

Julian commented: “I am humbled that so many friends and colleagues have contributed to this liber amicorum, which I look forward to reading and enjoying. I am extremely fortunate to have been involved in different aspects of international arbitration as an academic, practising lawyer and as an arbitrator.”
