If and when the UK eventually leaves the European Union the Recast Brussels Regulation will cease to apply in England and Wales.
The UK Government under Theresa May announced its intention to accede to the Lugano Convention. Lugano is the EFTA equivalent of Brussels I (the predecessor to Brussels Recast). The current Government has not departed from this, but with negotiations not having begun and the agreement of all other contracting states required, Lugano could be several years away.
What might fill the gap between Brussels and Lugano?
