A huge congratulations to Luke Pearce who is sworn in as King’s Counsel today at the Silks ceremony in Westminster Hall. Sir Michael Wood also receives a very well-deserved honorary KC appointment.
Luke has a broad commercial practice, with a particular focus on banking and finance, international arbitration, shipping & commodities, and civil fraud. In 2013 he was named by Legal Week as one of their ‘Stars of the Bar’ under ten years’ call. Before coming to the Bar, Luke taught contract law at Worcester College, Oxford and King’s College, London.
Sir Michael began practising at the Bar after serving as a lawyer in the FCO for 35 years and as principal Legal Adviser 1999-2006. Since then, he has acted for many governments in cases before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and inter-state arbitral tribunals.
Speaking on his appointment, Luke said “I am delighted to be taking silk today and am very much looking forward to the next stage of my career.”
Sir Michael notes that “it is a great honour to be made a KC; in particular, it reflects the importance of the collegial work of the UN International Law Commission.”
We send our congratulations to all the 2023 Silks.
