Matthew has a broad practice across all of chambers’ main practice areas, including commercial disputes, public international law, and sports law. He has recently concluded a secondment with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, where he advised on public international law, public law, and sanctions.
Before joining chambers, Matthew worked as a solicitor at Linklaters LLP, where he specialised in commercial litigation, arbitration, and internal investigations. He also spent time on secondment with Plan International, a leading children’s charity.
Matthew graduated with a first class degree in History and Politics from the University of Oxford. He also represented the University of Oxford at Yale, having been awarded a scholarship to study international relations on the International Alliance of Research Universities’ Global Summer Program.

- Advised the FCDO on various matters in respect of the Trade and Co-Operation Agreement between the UK and the EU (whilst seconded to the FCDO);
- Advised the Government Diamond Office on various matters relating to the domestic export control regime and the Kimberley Process Core Document (whilst seconded to the FCDO);
- Advised on the designation of various individuals under the Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2018 (whilst seconded to the FCDO);
- Represented a national governing body in a dispute with a beverages provider (whilst seconded to Onside Law);
- Assisted in drafting a confidential report for a national governing body concerning various alleged breaches of regulations (whilst seconded to Onside Law);
- Assisted as junior counsel in advising on Bermudan law in respect of enforcement against shares (led by Thomas Raphael KC);
- Represented a P&I Club in an LMAA arbitration concerning a dispute with charterers over whether a vessel was in quarantine.
