UKJT to publish authoritative cryptoassets and smart contracts legal statement

Co-authored by Lawrence Akka QC and Sam Goodman

On 18 November 2019, the UK Jurisdiction Taskforce (UKJT) will publish an authoritative legal statement on the status of cryptoassets and smart contracts under English private law. The UKJT is one of six taskforces created by the LawTech Delivery Panel, a body established by the UK Government, the Judiciary and the Law Society in order to promote the use of technology in the UK’s legal sector.

The purpose of the statement is to answer a number of the critical legal questions in this field, so as to provide a legal foundation for the responsible future utilisation of cryptoassets and smart contracts and to help market confidence and predictability in areas that are of great importance to the technological and legal communities and to the global financial services industry.

The launch event will be at Livery Hall in London. It is an important opportunity to bring together those from the legal, financial and technological sectors most likely to feel the immediate impact of its publication.

The statement has been authored by experts in the field Lawrence Akka QC and Sam Goodman, from Twenty Essex, together with David Quest QC and Matthew Lavy.

Find out more and register for the launch event.
